REPAIRS TO WW2 AUSTRALIAN BUILT SETS 1939-1945 models  are booked out until September 2010    Phone   0422 574 723

any quotes/jobs coming in will need to be done at that time[Sept 2010] , so an exact price can be given at that time..

At the moment a search is underway to find more technicians prepared to repair WW2 radios in their own workshop.

Wireless-and-Accessories , it was decided to simplify the business down until it expands further.

Clear quoting list at no charge .Allow 1 day for quoting , 7 days a week, so your quote can be done on a Sunday if the workshop is open that day.  All sets are boxed and tagged to avoid any risk of parts ownership .Quoting is listed in 2 main sections: part A is ELECTRONIC REPAIRS  , part B is COSMETIC REPAIRS. there is no correlation between 1 radio set and the next in terms of technical versus cosmetic. All the radio sets are damaged in different ways. Some look good but have had high voltage applied to the input. Some sets look terrible, modified, but virtually work . We see quoting as the most important first stage, then of course you the  customer will know what is happening, with progress reports, and an oportunity to see the set during the process. The transmitter must be deactivated but not damaged after restoration if the set is to go to an unlicensed home.  It is a simple process that can be reversed at no charge.    You can also specify that you do not wish any time  or money to be spent on the transmitter at all if you wish . This means that the transmit function is both disabled from a safety point of view, electrically isolated and unrestored, saving some of the cost. Deactivation of the transmitter is a legal requirement - ref to Australian Communications laws, unless the owner is known to have a suitable licence e.g. Amateur radio licence. It is common for sets to be freighted in here from interstate , and we are used to  handling the sets, packing them carefully with a high level of care.

More precise quoting  - information - [eg full restoration = T1/C1 ]

T-1= Technical both Receiver and Transmitter repairs [typically $450 Au ]

[includes rf spectrum check for spurious emissions]

T-2 = Technical Receiver repairs     [typically $320 Au]  [includes power supply overhaul and power cable repairs ]

C-1= Cosmetic repairs including removal of front panels and respray, relettering [typically $780Au ]

C-2 = Cosmetic repairs with paint touchups, but not removal of front panel    [typically $ 280 Au]

this includes panel beating of box, and can still be fairly time consuming.

J-1 = Technical repairs to intercom section of a WS19 only. [typically $200 Au ]

This includes   electrical safety deactivation of the other sections of the radio set . This means that accidental switching of the set will not cause a problem like a fire or a blown fuse. This is full isolation of all other circuits. [typically $200 ] The repairs to the power supply have to be done properly and then the Intercom will get a full set of new capacitors to make it very reliable compared to a basic repair.

Warranty - is  90 days after repairs. the only exclusion from warranty is the Power supply windings. Most faults therefore ARE covered by warranty, and it is only the ancient nature of the high voltage windings that precludes them from being covered fully by warranty. What is covered  - the repair to the set if the high voltage windings fail, but the owner must pay for the replacement winding.

these typical quote numbers are a guide - sometimes a bit cheaper and sometimes a bit more. This is dependant on  level of missing components, and serious damage or lack of damage to the front panel. Corrosion can be a factor. some sets are hard to get power connectors for. most jobs involve a real and necessary technical delay.

We also remake mounting frames for limited models, and other parts shown below.

Wireless set 19 mounting tray remake [some parts are WW2 stock] is made to supply

a growing demand for the WS19 and it's accessories. Mounting trays are so rare for these sets, that something needed

to be done, so I made a few - and when stocks run out  I do not plan to make any more.  There is a high level of accuracy in getting them to be the same as the original, with one difficult area being that the spacing for the holes in the sides

of the various 19 sets from various countries varies to a tolerance of mm -eg 2mm difference between the 2 extremes

of the various ww2 originals.. It is sometimes necessary to file the slots on the radio box to make the strap assemblies fit properly. I discovered the problem, and made changes to the parts so that they are typically going to fit.

In a special case where a customer does not wish to 'fit' the strap holes, a special strap can be made as a 1-off at an additional cost of $75 Au .

The  production costs of 1-offs are expensive, but the service is available .I would need very precise measurements from your radio box-strap-holes.

Price is  currently  $240 and postage within Australia is ok,   [ but not O/S just for now,]

for a short time, due to recent sales,no fully completed ones in stock. Delay time is:approx 7days to allow for assembly and paint etc.

Location - Edwardstown, Adelaide 10mins S.W.from Adelaide city centre .

Remake of 101 set and FS6 main set leather straps  [A.W.A. 1941 ]

The straps have been made from the correct leather - new and specially cut, using original copper rivets.

Many of the 101 and FS6 radio straps are either missing or splitting. The ones that are not splitting near the end of the

strap are rare now - so to make it safer and to solve some problems I decided to make some new ones.

I have  a few in stock here ready to go now - and I had been trying to get them made for me for years

finally I made them myself... here are the pictures , and  the length is correct, the thickness, etc. even the colour.

The power supply straps are not being remade here - as they are often ok, and some power supply boxes that

exist turn up with a strap- so that becomes a spare in thelong run . Yes I will make power supply straps some time

soon, but so far there is not much demand for them . so email me if you are interested in a power supply strap in the long run of things.  OK here is the strap for the set....101-new-straps-pile.jpg (86035 bytes)   click on pic to enlarge

Price is $25 AU each [inc GST] , and available to overseas customers .
