VY Crewman/Commodore Fog Lights Installation

Fitting after market fog lights to a VY  with the Exec bumper. There was no existing wiring in the vehicle.

Remove black panels from lower bumper to make room for fog lights - they just unclip from behind.

Here's another mounting idea.....

	This shows how the fog light is mounted. I fitted M6 nutserts into the bumper support - a bit awkward... There is a spacer above the fog light bracket (between the bracket and bumper support). The fog lights are Narva Compac 100.
	This shows where I mounted the relay. The fuse should be mounted as close to the battery as possible. I wanted to use the spare relay location in the fuse/relay box but it's too hard to gain access to the back of the panel.
	Installed the GMH head light / fog light switch combo - GMH part no. - 92113753 - $43.75. Fit one extra wire in the plug that connects to the head light switch - (It's the Green/yellow in the photo). Have a look at the plug - there is a black wire (earth) on the bottom row on the left (as it sits in the car plugged into the switch). Immediately to the right of the black wire is a vacant position - you need to add a wire here that will switch the negative side of the fog lights relay coil. NOTE: The GMH headlight switch switches the EARTH  (not the positive) - there is no need to modify the switch. NOTE: The NARVA wiring diagram shown above, shows the relay being triggered by a positive from the parkers - Use this method               if you do not wish to change your headlight switch - you must include a switch so that the fog lights can be turned off.              The fogs are triggered from the parkers so that in heavy fog you can turn off the main beams to reduce reflection and just rely              on the fog lights for illumination.              The VY combination headlight/fog light switch allows the main beams to be turned off leaving the parkers and fog lights on.
	I pinched a wire and connector pin from another plug that I had laying around from a Ford. You could try the wreckers and search through their bits of looms. I ran my relay trigger wire from the relay near the fuse box neatly around the strut tower following the main wiring path. I slipped some convoluted tubing (about 8mm dia.) over the wire to protect and disguise it. The convoluted tubing was just the right size to fit into the clips under the main wiring path around the strut tower. I then ran the wire into the car through the rubber grommet immediately behind the strut tower. I had to cut a slit in the rubber grommet then sealed around the wire with some silicone.
	Heres the wiring layout........ Note:-  The fuse (for any accessory) should be fitted as close to the battery / power source as possible - not at the equipment end of the power feed. This will protect the entire length of the power cable, not just the equipment.

	I also fitted a leather bound steering wheel - eBay is a good source of VY bits. Satin Chrome spokes - GMH part no. - 92147964 - $34.55

	Given that every ute out there seems to get a bloody dent in the tailgate sooner or later, I thought that a reversing camera would be a good idea. Actually, the tailgate wasn't the deciding factor, it was child safety - there is a massive blind spot behind the Crewman (and most modern cars). I looked at various 5, 6 and 7 inch LCD's - where the hell do you mount one ? I didn't want to lose the little hidey hole in front of the shifter and ya probably won't look down there when you're reversing. The monitor has another video input - maybe for TV/DVD later................ The mirror/LCD just clips on over the existing mirror. With the camera off, the display area is reflective allowing rear view. When reverse is selected, the LCD lights up with a view of the area immediately behind the car - Bloody brilliant................... There is also a camera available with infrared illumination which works quite well. These cameras should be standard factory fitment !
	I've added the ultrasonic reversing sensors too. There are 4 sensors mounted in the rear bumper. There is a module that interfaces the sensors to the display so that the left and right distance measurements can be displayed on the mirror monitor.
	The unit starts beeping at a distance of about 2 metres. As the distance to an object decreases, the beeping gets faster and changes to a constant tone at about 400mm at which time the distance displays will show "STOP".

Holden don't sell Radio Removal Tools. After spending a considerable amount of time figuring out what locks the radio in place, I manufactured these tools that allow the radio to be pulled out in a matter of seconds. Here, I disassembled two cargo blinds and had my trimmer stitch part of the two blinds together to cover the length of the Crewman ute bed. The ultra long cargo blind is actually attached to the canopy frame.

The following parts required for this installation were purchased on eBay. :-
Main window switch
4 Door looms
4 Electric window regulators
2 Rear door window switches
Mid level BCM
2 New key remotes

The Crewman had the main switch wiring in place and also the power window looms in the rear doors.
The regulators that I bought were from a VT/VX and had motor connectors on them which were different to the connectors on the VY rear door looms, so I just did a cut and shut with the plugs from the VT/VX looms.
I fitted the complete VT/VX front door looms to the VY Crewman.
The regulators were quite easy to swap over - Just tape the glass about an inch from the top to stop it from dropping into the door.
The Crewman was only fitted with a 'Low' level BCM. A 'Mid' level BCM is required to run power windows. This was fitted by a Holden dealer because it needs to be linked to the PCM, ABS module, Cruise module and the new remotes need to be programmed.
The new remotes are the 3 button variety so I now have the boot release function (but obviously no boot.....). When the boot release button is pressed, a relay in the BCM clicks and I found the output on the Red/green. There must be some other function that I can use this feature for.............
The insulation on the back of the rear door trims has cut outs that show where the switches will be fitted.
When I was finished, everything work but the front left window operation was reversed, so I just swapped the motor wires over in the A pillar connector - easier than removing the door trim again.
A relay and circuit breaker were required to be fitted in the fuse panel under the steering column. 

I haven't taken many photos of this installation because it's all straight forward if the vehicle already has the wiring in place.............

	The winder holes in the door trims were filled with plastic blanking plugs from Fitch the Rubber Man in Adelaide - Download their catalogue
	I fitted blue LED's to the main switches and also the rear switches.

	If your vehicle doesn't have the wiring in place, this diagram shows how to connect the switch to the BCM and window motors. You can get the pins for the connectors from looms from the wreckers - don't have to be from the same connector as many automotive connectors use the same pins. Wreckers often have a box of loom bits that you can search through.

Hold the UP and DOWN buttons then turn ignition on, wait until you hear the beep(3 secs).
Screen displayed "Service Reminder 60,000"
Press and hold SET until the beep.
Display shows "Service Reminder, No Items"

Test mode can be accessed by holding down the Mode and Set buttons while turning on the ignition. You can then scroll through each item by pressing the mode button. The available items are :- Software Version/ Cluster Serial Number, GM Part Number, Switch Voltage, Battery Voltage, Fuel Cal Part No., Petrol Sender Voltage, Petrol Sender Resistance, Remaining Fuel, Instantaneous Fuel, Coolant Temp, Speed, Tacho, Park Lamps On/Off, Trouble Codes & Instrument Test. Display will be reset at ignition off.

This is the digital speedo. It must be enabled by someone (Holden Dealer) with a Tech2 programmer. The digital speedo is mutually exclusive with the speed alert. The display will default to digital speedo at ignition on. While travelling at speed, you can press the set button to capture the speed - it can be updated by successive presses of the set button. While stopped, press the up arrow button to display the Trap Speed, then press Set to reset the trap speed.

	Digital TV Tuner with Dual Diversity Antenna from Jaycar - cat. XC4829, mounted under passenger seat.
	It seems to run very hot on a hot day so I fitted an 80mm PC fan to provide some cooling. The tuner has an auxiliary 12 volt output to control a relay.
	Auxiliary audio input kit fitted to the standard Blaupunkt CD/Radio. Kit supplied by ASR Audio & Electronics. Custom buttons also supplied by ASR Audio & Electronics.
	Dual screen DVD player with AV input fed from TV tuner.
