VRSCDX Side Stand Modification

There are a couple of problems with the original stand and lock arrangement.

1. It's all very well to have a locking stand however with the considerable weight of the bike on the stand, the random nature of the ground
where the bike is parked, and the considerable friction between the stand and the ground, there is no guarantee that the stand arm will actually
pivot out and engage the locking tab.

2. The original stand does not over centre forward far enough.

3. The stand may lock however if the bike moved a little, the stand could move rearward to the point where the stand had over centred
(toward the rear) meaning that if the locking tab was not fully engaged, the bike could potentially roll forward and  fall over.

4.jpg (80593 bytes) This shows the area of the stand arm that went for a ride on the belt sander to allow the stand to actually over centre in the forward direction by a few more degrees.
It also shows the locking tab recess. The front face of the opening was filed forward to allow the locking tab and side stand to over centre in the forward direction.

Item No. 1 is the original location of the upper spring mount on the frame.
Item No. 2 is the new location of the upper spring mount. It is approximately 3/4" forward of the original location.
As the stand is kicked forward to the point where it over centres, it is actually pulled into the forward position very firmly now.
Item No. 3 shows the locking tab on the stand. It has been built up by approximately 5mm (by TIG welding) on the rear face so that
when the stand is in the locked position it will lock into the recess on the frame now only allowing minimal movement.

You can also see the new location of the spring mount.

The pivot was reassembled with fresh grease.

This shows the increased forward angle of the side stand after the modification.
