South Australian Nature.

Australia is renowned for its unusual wildlife, plants and very different scenery. These things bring great satisfaction to me and I plan to add a few of my environmental discoveries to these pages when I can.

There is a patch of dirt just outside the township of One Tree Hill, between the road and a grazing paddock. In this narrow strip of roadside verge can be found hundreds of species of grasses, herbs, orchids, lillies, shrubs, vines and trees. Most of these plants are remnant indigenous species that have been gradually disappearing from the scenery over the years as we become more urbanised. I have been visiting the site over many years, mostly in the spring when there is a profusion of growth and flowering before the summer wipes everything out. The local council have recently fenced the area off and recorded it for protection along with other similar areas throughout their jurisdiction.

Here are some pictures.
