THE COACH
(Mark Mickan)
"When it was all on the line, to come up with a win against quality opposition reflects great character. The impressive thing was how they persisted and kept at it against a quality opponent who has been in good form. To come away like they did in the last quarter and get a contribution from everyone when it really counted was fantastic."

COMMENT
The Tigers have moved one step closer to securing a finals place with a pulsating 16 point victory against arch-rival Port Adelaide. One more victory from the last three matches will guarantee a finals spot for the first time since 1999. In contrast the Magpies are on the brink of elimination requiring victories in their last three games and other results going in their favour.

The home side seemed in control for the majority match except for half of the third quarter when the Magpies turned an 11 point half-time deficit to a 9 point advantage early in the last quarter. However, the Tigers seized control of the centre bounces and steadied to kick 6 out of the last 8 goals.
