THE COACH
(Peter Simmons)
"I
was pretty pleased with the boys at half-time, that we actually toughed
it out. We thought if we could get Neely . . to get forward a bit
more we might be able to pick up a few extra balls. We thought we'd try
to run them off their feet."

COMMENTS
The
Tigers returned to the winner's circle with a hard fought 54 point victory
over bottom team West Adelaide. The teams were confronted with a
stiff 4 goal breeze blowing to the primary school end (southen end) but
it was the home side who eventually mastered the conditions.
The
Tigers were fortunate to lead at quarter time. Matthew Bode, on his
left foot, snapped two miraculous goals from the boundary line near the
scoreboard.
Glenelg,
with a 31 point lead at three quarter and kicking into the wind in
the final quarter responded superbly to what could have been a tricky West
Adelaide challenge. West Adelaide were kept goal-less while the boys
from the Bay slammed on four goals. The Tigers dominated possession
in the last quarter with 103 disposals to 57.
The
Tigers ultimately won the game because they used the breeze more effectively
than their opponent. With the wind Glenelg kicked 12 goals to West
Adelaide's 2. Against the breeze the Bloods outscored the Tigers
6 goals to 5.
Since
2003 Glenelg and West Adelaide are poles apart. The Bloods were gunning
for their first premiership since 1983 and the Tigers were struggling to
avoid the woodenspoon. In 2005, the Tigers are a side on the rise
and a serious contender to play finals football. The Bloods are a
side on the decline and cemented to the foot of the table. How times
can change so quickly.
