COMMENTS
It took fifteen years but the Glenelg Football Club has finally broken the finals drought with a last gasp victory against the Double Blues. Veteran Benjamin Moore bobbed up in the final minutes to kick two goals to book his beloved Tigers into a semi final spot against the Eagles.

After the first quarter and trailing by 21 points a Tiger victory seemed most unlikely. Kicking with a tricky breeze Sturt out-muscled their inexperienced major round opponents and came prepared to play finals football. With Paul Sherwood the only survivor of the failed 1999 finals campaign and the most capped finals players with 2 games, the Seasiders appeared to be exiting the finals arena without a whimper. To add to Mickan's woes defender Sam Rudolph left the ground with a shin injury and an important decision on who to play on the dangerous Brant Chambers.

Fortunately for the large contingent of Bays supporter, Backwell, Fisher and Allen closed down Sturt's midfield and gradually Glenelg worked their way back into the contest. With Jeff Smith standing Chambers, Rudolph reappeared in the forward lines at the fifth mark and immediately kicked started Glenelg's hope with a running goal. Game on!!!

In the second and third quarters the Tigers outscored the Blues 26 points to 14. However, entering the final quarter and with the momentum, the Tigers still trailed by 7 points. Kicking into a stiff breeze Glenelg's perseverance eventually paid off. Up and until time-on Sturt had responded to every Glenelg challenge. However, at the 26 minute mark Sturt's resistance had been broken when Moore calmly slotted through his second goal to give his team the lead for the first time.  Glenelg victory??? Game over???

In true Shakespearian style more drama was to follow. The season appeared to have come to a dramatic end when former Concordia College student Tristan Gum marked for Sturt 45 metres out on a 30 degree angle. Sturt victory??? Game over??? Gum's kicked went wide only to be marked by Sturt's Simon Feast 15 metres out from goal on a slight angle. Sturt victory??? Game over??? Surely the end was nigh for the black and gold. Feast's kick narrowly missed to leave the Tigers one point ahead.

Glenelg cleared the ball on the ensuing kick out. 67 seconds later the siren sounded. Glenelg victory!!! Game over!!!
