Where it all began for me
I was introduced to Hydroponic gardening while visiting my grandmother quite some years ago now. We were both watching a gardening show and the next topic after the advertising break was "We'll show you how to grow plants without soil". The system shown was a simple one containing just one polystyrene box filled with Perlite. Nutrient solution was added as required and the level in the bottom off the box was indicated with a simple float. I was hooked and that was it, my first system was a two half tubes filled with course sand from the creek that boarded our property and I grew strawberries.

The header tank was scrounged from a dismantled hot water system. The growing beds were a length of 150mm stormwater pipe cut in half, which I had picked up from curb side rubbish collection. The sump was a 10 litre bucket which I also used for nutrient preparation. The bucket was emptied into the header and the nutrient solution made its way down through the beds and back into the bucket. A simple system, but it worked, and the family got to eat lots of strawberries.
Below are links to all the aspects of my systems I have recently operated, as well as links to other related subjects.
More to come soon when I get the time.....
