about us

The Margaret River Environment Centre was incorporated in April 2000, and operates out of the old Infant Health Centre, opposite the Shire Offices, at 50 Tunbridge Street , Margaret River . We are open between the hours of 10am-4pm weekdays.
Our centre has been developed to promote the values of conservation and awareness of our local environment in particular, and the world environment in general. We believe it is essential to strike a balance between the demands of growth and developmental pressure on the one hand against the need to preserve, protect and enhance our natural environment on the other.
We rely on the involvement and support of the local community for the purpose of achieving real outcomes for our natural environment. We operate through a model of participatory democracy, whereby the people involved in the centre on a day to day basis make the decisions for our centre.
According to our constitution, six committee members are elected at the AGM, but our meetings are open to all members. Every member has both a voice and a vote at our general committee meetings, held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Environment Centre.
At present the committee consists of-:
Noel Conway Coordinator
Andrea Savic Assistant Coordinator
Natalie Dillon Secretary
Sally Wylie
Geraldine Clarke
Carroll Knudson
A properly constituted meeting requires five members to be present, three of whom must be committee members.
Membership of the centre is open to anyone.
Members are able to vote at general committee meetings and at our AGM, and entitles you to access our resources and to borrow books from our library. Your involvement in running our centre is also welcomed.
