Adelaide's Shin Buddhist Dojo

Pure Land Buddhism in South Australia

About us

The Adelaide Jodo Shinshu Study Centre was dedicated on 15 March 2009 by Rev Shigenobu Watanabe, head minister of Hongwanji Buddhist Mission of Australia (HBMA) in Sydney.

Our purpose is to serve as a resource for everyone who is interested in Pure Land Buddhism.

A dojo is a small dedicated space, often in a private home, for the study and practice of the Buddha Dharma. Although there are tens of thousands of larger Shin Buddhist temples, in the early days - about eight hundred years ago - members held their meetings at dojos.

The dojo is maintained by HBMA members who live in Adelaide. We hold regular Dharma meetings and have a supply of books and religious items for sale.

The international head temple of our school (Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha) is Nishi Hongwanji, in Kyoto.
