The Royal National Park is about 1 hour's drive from the centre of Sydney, and less from southern suburbs. There are walking tracks for much of the coastline within the park that offer great views. This walk is a section of the coast between Wattamolla and Garie.
The walk is about 7km and will take about 3 hours at a leisurely pace, or less if you walk a bit faster. The walk is reasonably flat although it is quite steep climb down as you approach Garie beach.
You can do the walk in either direction. The track file below is in the Wattamolla to Garie direction, which is the direction I would recommend.
Unless you plan to walk back again, arrange to leave a car at either end. This section of the coast track starts at the top (southern end) of the car park at Wattamolla. There is a good spot for lunch at Curracurrong looking out over Eagle Rock.
Updated May 12th 2005: I have updated the track between Curracurrong and Garie due to the laying of metal track to stop erosion. This has moved the walk slightly north-west of the track shown on the NSW Lands Department maps.
At weekends there is often a kiosk open at both Wattamolla and Garie, although apart from this there is no drinking water, so make sure you bring enough water with you. Be aware that although this walk is quite close to Sydney there is pretty much no mobile phone reception. If you do not have a NSW National Parks annual pass it will cost you $11 to get into the park.
The Royal National Park map (available at the information centre) is quite a good map showing walking tracks in the park.
